Plywood purchase guide and precautions

1、 Core maintenance principles

Moisture and water resistance: This is the top priority for maintaining plywood. Although many plywood boards have a certain degree of moisture resistance (such as waterproof boards made of phenolic glue), long-term exposure to humid environments can still lead to glue cracking, deformation, and mold growth.

Avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures: Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the surface to fade, age, and crack. Keep away from heat sources such as heaters and stoves to prevent excessive drying, cracking, or deformation of the board.

Prevent scratches and impacts: Avoid scratching the surface with hard objects or violent impacts to prevent permanent damage.

Proper cleaning: Choose the correct cleaning agent and method based on the surface treatment method (whether painting, pasting, etc.).

2、 Daily cleaning and maintenance methods

1. Regular cleaning

Tool: Use a soft dry cloth or a slightly damp cloth. For smooth surfaces, ultra-fine fiber cloth is the best choice because it is less likely to leave scratches and water stains.

Steps:

First, use a dry cloth or soft bristled brush to remove dust and debris from the surface.

If wet wiping is required, wring out the cloth with clean water until it completely stops dripping, and gently wipe it.

Immediately wipe off all surface moisture with another dry cloth, and do not let the water stay on the board for a long time.

Cleaning agent: If only water cannot wipe it clean, a mild cleaning agent with a neutral pH value can be used (such as diluted soapy water or detergent water). Do not use strong acids, strong bases, irritating chemical solvents (such as alcohol, acetone, thinner), or abrasive cleaning agents (such as stain removers), as they can damage the surface coating.

2. Treat stains

Oil stains: Apply a small amount of household cleaner or diluted detergent directly to the stain, gently wipe with a soft cloth, then immediately wipe off the cleaner with a damp cloth, and finally thoroughly dry with a dry cloth.

Ink stains, juice stains, and coffee stains: should be immediately wiped with a slightly damp soft cloth dipped in a small amount of neutral detergent and quickly dried.

Stubborn stains: You can try making a paste with a small amount of toothpaste or baking soda and water, and gently wiping it with a soft cloth, but the action should be light. The test should be conducted in an inconspicuous place first.

3. Regular maintenance (for plywood with painted or decorative surfaces)

After cleaning and completely drying, furniture care wax or products such as Bi Li Zhu can be used for maintenance.

Spray a small amount of care wax onto a soft cloth, evenly apply it to the surface of the board, wait for a few minutes for it to absorb, and then polish it with a clean soft cloth.

This can form a protective film on the surface, enhance stain resistance, reduce minor scratches, and maintain gloss. The frequency is generally 1-2 times per quarter.

3、 Special maintenance for different usage scenarios

As furniture (such as tables, cabinets):

Use coasters and table mats to prevent hot water cups and pots from directly burning the surface.

Install soft cushions at the bottom of furniture legs to prevent scratching the surface of the board and floor when moving.

As a cabinet or bathroom cabinet:

Ensure ventilation in the environment and promptly dry any water stains that may have been splashed.

Check if the water pipes are leaking, which is a common cause of cabinet damage.

As a floor or floor substrate:

Keep the ground dry, change shoes when entering, and avoid bringing rainwater in.

If there are signs of moisture on the surface board as the base layer of the floor, it should be inspected and dealt with immediately.

Outdoor use:

Special outdoor grade plywood (such as ocean plywood) must be used.

Nevertheless, it should be placed under a canopy as much as possible and regularly inspected for the condition of the surface waterproof paint or paint, and repaired in a timely manner.

4、 Common problem handling

Minor scratches: You can use a repair crayon or a marker pen of similar color to fill and modify them.

Cracking or cracking: Small scale cracking can be achieved by injecting wood glue (white latex) into the crack, then fixing it with a clamp, wiping off any spilled glue, and allowing it to completely dry.

Mold spots: If slight mold spots are found, they should be dealt with immediately. Dip a soft cloth in diluted bleach or white vinegar (1:10 ratio) and gently wipe the moldy area. After wiping, use a damp cloth with water to wipe again and thoroughly dry it. Pay attention to maintaining a dry and ventilated environment to prevent recurrence.

Warping deformation: Slight deformation can be restored by applying reverse pressure and placing it in a dry environment. But if the deformation is severe, it is usually difficult to repair and it is best to replace it.
